Tesamorelin reconstitution calculator
Concentration and syringe-unit math for tesamorelin vials (2, 5 and 10 mg), with the calculator set up for a 5 mg vial and 2 mL of diluent. Change both to match your own vial.
FDA-approved product existsGrowth hormone axis
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing factor (GHRF). It is FDA-approved as EGRIFTA SV and EGRIFTA WR for reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy.

Math only, not dosing advice. Follow your prescriber or label. Real vials give slightly less than the full-draw count: a little liquid stays in the vial and needle. Your last setup is saved in this browser only; Clear removes it.
Save your vial in Caliper and it remembers the concentration and use-by date you entered, alongside your dose log. The calculator above is a browser tool and is not part of the app.
Save my vial in CaliperThe calculator starts with a 5 mg vial and 2 mL of diluent as an example setup, not a recommendation. Enter the vial size on your label and the volume you actually added. The amount field starts empty: Caliper never suggests an amount.
Tesamorelin concentration by vial size
Vial mg ÷ mL of diluent = mg per mL. Plain arithmetic for tesamorelin label sizes; the volumes are examples, not recommendations.
| Vial | 1 mL | 2 mL | 3 mL |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 mg | 2 mg/mL | 1 mg/mL | 0.667 mg/mL |
| 5 mg | 5 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 1.667 mg/mL |
| 10 mg | 10 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL | 3.333 mg/mL |
Syringe units to mg at 2.5 mg/mL
What a given number of U-100 units holds when a 5 mg vial has 2 mL added. This is a unit conversion, like a map scale, not a dose. A different vial size or volume changes every row, so use the calculator for your own numbers.
| U-100 units | mL | mg | mcg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 units | 0.05 | 0.125 | 125 |
| 10 units | 0.1 | 0.25 | 250 |
| 20 units | 0.2 | 0.5 | 500 |
| 25 units | 0.25 | 0.625 | 625 |
| 50 units | 0.5 | 1.25 | 1,250 |
Mixing and storing tesamorelin
The two approved formulations are mixed differently, which shows why the diluent volume matters. Per the labels, EGRIFTA SV's 2 mg vial is mixed with 0.5 mL of Sterile Water for Injection (2 mg per 0.5 mL, which is 4 mg/mL), and EGRIFTA WR's 11.6 mg vial with 1.3 mL of the Bacteriostatic Water supplied, which the label states as 8 mg per mL. Both labels say not to shake the vial.
Storage also differs: per the labels, EGRIFTA SV is used immediately after mixing and the rest is thrown away, while a mixed EGRIFTA WR vial is kept at room temperature, 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), and discarded 7 days after mixing. Unmixed vials of both are stored at room temperature, protected from light.
For a research vial, the calculator works the same way: a 5 mg vial with 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL. Research vials don't come with FDA-reviewed storage data, so follow the vial label.
Status: FDA-approved as EGRIFTA SV (2 mg vial) and EGRIFTA WR (11.6 mg vial). The two are not substitutable. Vials sold as "research use only" tesamorelin are not the approved product and are not reviewed by the FDA.

Official FDA label dosing for Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR
Follow your prescriber's instructions. This is not medical advice. The text below is quoted exactly from the current FDA prescribing information (section cross-references removed). It is the official label schedule for the branded product named and does not apply to compounded or research products. Labels change; the linked label is the authority.
EGRIFTA SV (tesamorelin) for injection, 2 mg per vial: label schedule
Indication (from the label): “EGRIFTA SV is indicated for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adult patients with lipodystrophy.”
“The dose of EGRIFTA SV is 1.4 mg (0.35 mL of the reconstituted solution) injected subcutaneously once daily.”
“Inject EGRIFTA SV into the abdomen, rotating injection sites.”
“Reconstitute one vial of lyophilized powder with 0.5 mL of diluent. Mix by rolling the vial gently in your hands for 30 seconds. Do not shake.”
“Administer 0.35 mL of EGRIFTA SV immediately following reconstitution and throw away any unused solution and diluent.”

EGRIFTA WR (tesamorelin) for injection, 11.6 mg per vial: label schedule
Indication (from the label): “EGRIFTA WR is indicated for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adult patients with lipodystrophy.”
“EGRIFTA WR and EGRIFTA SV are not substitutable.”
“The dose of EGRIFTA WR is 1.28 mg (0.16 mL of the reconstituted solution) injected subcutaneously once daily.”
“Reconstitute one vial of lyophilized powder with 1.3 mL of diluent. Move the vial in a circle (swirl) to mix all the powder and liquid. Do not shake.”
“One reconstituted vial provides daily doses for 7 days. Discard unused solution of EGRIFTA WR vial 7 days after mixing.”

FAQ
- How much bacteriostatic water do I add to a tesamorelin vial?
- Use the volume in your product's instructions or from your prescriber or pharmacist. The water doesn't change how much tesamorelin is in the vial, only the concentration: a 5 mg vial with 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL, and adding more water makes each unit on the syringe hold less.
- How do I convert tesamorelin from mg to syringe units?
- Divide the amount in mg by the concentration in mg/mL to get mL, then multiply by 100 for a U-100 insulin syringe (50 for U-50, 40 for U-40). The calculator on this page does it when you enter the amount from your prescriber or label.
- Does this calculator give a tesamorelin dose?
- No. The calculator's amount field starts empty and Caliper never suggests an amount. For reference, this page quotes the dosing section of the FDA label for Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR, which applies only to that branded product. Your dose comes from your prescriber.
- Is tesamorelin FDA-approved?
- FDA-approved as EGRIFTA SV (2 mg vial) and EGRIFTA WR (11.6 mg vial). The two are not substitutable. Vials sold as "research use only" tesamorelin are not the approved product and are not reviewed by the FDA.
- How should I store tesamorelin after mixing?
- Follow the storage section of your product's label or the pharmacy's instructions. The notes on this page summarize what the FDA label says for the branded product. For any mixed vial, write the mixing date on it and respect the use-by date.
- Are EGRIFTA SV and EGRIFTA WR mixed the same way?
- No. Per their labels, EGRIFTA SV (2 mg vial) is mixed with 0.5 mL of Sterile Water for Injection and used right away, while EGRIFTA WR (11.6 mg vial) is mixed with 1.3 mL of the Bacteriostatic Water supplied and used for 7 days. The labels say the two are not substitutable.
